In short
Weather Rewind does not ask for your name, email or any other personal details, and there are no ads. To see which parts of the website are used, it uses Google Analytics, and nothing else; the app measures nothing. Places you have looked at recently are kept on your own phone or computer so they can be offered again.
What is collected
- Server logs — IP address, time, page address and browser — to run the service, fix problems and keep it secure.
- Which screens are opened, with the place names, months and years chosen. Map coordinates are not sent.
- Page views and visit statistics (approximate region, device type, where a visit came from), in aggregate.
- Recent places and years, stored only on your own device.
The one tool
Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics
Aggregated page views, approximate region, device type and referrals, measured in a web browser. They are not loaded inside the Weather Rewind app, which therefore measures nothing at all. There is no session recording and no tracking of individual clicks. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on.
Cookies and local storage
Recent places and years are kept in local storage on your device, which only Weather Rewind can read. On the website, Google Analytics may set cookies of its own. Blocking or deleting cookies in your browser does not stop the website from working.
Legal basis
- Server logs and local storage: legitimate interest in running the service.
- Analytics cookies may need your consent where you live, for example in the EU and EEA. You can refuse them in the ways listed under Your choices.
How long it is kept
- Recent places and years: until you clear your browser’s storage, or delete the app.
- Server logs: normally deleted within 30 to 90 days.
- Analytics: as set in Google Analytics’ own settings.
Your choices
- Block or delete cookies in your browser.
- Install Google’s opt-out add-on for Analytics.
- Use a private window, which keeps nothing after you close it.
- Use the app, which loads no analytics at all.
Who else sees it
The data above is processed by Google, for the purposes described, and by Vercel, which hosts the service and keeps the server logs. It is not sold or shared with anyone else.
